Next time you are sad, pay attention to the weakness that you experience. Consider that on the other side of this weakness is the Joy of the Lord that gives you strength. You might ask what I mean by this. What does “The Joy of The Lord Is My strength really mean?” To understand this statement, let us track its origins. This line comes from the scripture in Nehemiah 8:10 that says;
Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

The story behind this setting is that there was a gathering in a square at the ‘Water Gate’. The Water Gate was one of the principal gates on the east side of Jerusalem ,and Ezra the Priest stood there and read the Law. The Bible says that as Ezra read the scriptures that all the people were weeping. As the people weeped, Nehemiah proclaimed these words,” Do not grieve, for the Joy of the Lord is your strength.”
On this occasion, there was a large gathering of weeping people. As a result of their weeping, the people were encouraged to find strength in the joy of the Lord. So what does it mean by “The Joy of the Lord is my Strength?”
What is the Joy of the Lord
Joy is an emotion we feel when we are at peace with all that is going on with and around us. It is the sensation we experience when we have things under control, and there is harmony in our wellbeing. Joy is also the emotion that stirs up our power in our most difficult moments.
What is more important than Joy itself, is the Truth that stirs up Joy. Consider the mindset that leads to Joy. For me, it is the Truth of God that brightens the bulbs of my heart. When I reflect on the Truth, that God is my Father and He loves me, I find Joy.

We have help in our weakness
It is quite encouraging to know that in our weakness we can find strength in the Lord. We often get caught up in the circumstances we experience, and distracted by the impassable troubled waters along our way. Yet with proper meditation, we can regain our power.
