Above all, it is a good thing to follow after the purpose of God. This is because we might have many plans, but only God’s plan will prevail. The Bible says it like this “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” The Hebrew word for the word purpose, as used in this scripture, is Yaats which means counsel, or plan. The verse is basically saying that even though men might have many plans, it is the will, purpose or intention of God that will stand.
We usually hear people asking “what is your purpose?”, or, “God called you for a purpose,” but what does it really mean to be called into purpose? As we consider this scripture found in Proverbs, we must begin to think of purpose not in our terms but in Gods terms.
When Jesus marched to the cross He felt the weight of sin and the battering of evil men. Jesus could have purposed in His heart to quit and ease the pain. Yet Jesus allowed the purpose of God to prevail, to the point where He said “Not my will but Yours be done.” Jesus was saying here “Father, let your purpose take preeminence over mine.” Jesus also taught us to pray in this manner “Thy will be done.” This is a perfect example for us as we walk with God. We must submit our purpose to His, and give way for His will to be done.
God's Will Is To Make You More Like Him
God’s will is to make us into a perfect man/woman. When Adam sinned he lost the position of a perfect man. Nonetheless, Jesus Christ came to reinstate us into that perfect position. This is proven by the scripture found in Ephesians 4:13 that says;
Until we all come into the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
Ephesians 4:13
Here Paul got the revelation that God wants to make us more like His son Jesus Christ. For this to happen, we must be processed in the furnace of God. We can liken this to the way a goldsmith melts his gold to purify it and to form it into His masterpiece. God wants to make us into His masterpiece.
satan Wants To Keep Us Away From The Purpose of God
What a wonderful thing to know that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Not even satan with all the fallen angels and every demon combined, are not able to keep us away from God’s will, so long as we follow after it.
The Bible says that satan is our enemy who wants to kill, steal and destroy us. Yet God wants to give us His abundant life. The good news for us is that God’s will is final and nothing can go against it. Yet, we also have a will and a choice. We must use our free will to chose God and follow Him. When we do not do this we give the enemy entrance to destroy us. This means that we must keep the enemy out of our lives by choosing to align our will with God’s.
